The service
Backstop is a Shopify app that monitors your store for payment disputes, shows deadlines and guidance, and assembles evidence documents from your order data for you to review and submit. It is operated by Wedgeworks. Installing the app from the Shopify App Store and keeping it installed constitutes acceptance of these terms.
Billing
- Free plan at no charge. Pro: $19 USD per month, charged through Shopify's billing system.
- 14-day free trial of Pro. Unlimited disputes on every plan.
- No per-dispute fees, no per-alert fees, and never a percentage of disputed or recovered money.
- Cancel any time from the app's Settings page, effective immediately, with no cancellation fee. Uninstalling the app also ends billing. Shopify enforces that.
What we do not promise
Nobody can honestly promise dispute outcomes, so we don't. Banks decide disputes; Backstop's guidance and win-rate ranges are industry context, not predictions or guarantees. You are responsible for reviewing every evidence document before you submit it, Backstop never submits anything on your behalf.
Your responsibilities
- Use the app only for stores you are authorized to operate.
- Ensure information you add to evidence documents is accurate, evidence goes to financial institutions.
- Comply with your own obligations to your customers, including privacy law.
Data
How we handle data is covered by the Privacy Policy. Short version: we process your store's order and dispute data only to provide the service, we never sell it, and uninstalling deletes it.
Liability
The service is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the three months before the claim. We are not liable for the outcome of any dispute, for lost profits, or for indirect or consequential damages.
Termination
You can leave at any time by uninstalling. We may suspend or end service for abuse, non-payment, or if required by Shopify or law. These terms may be updated; material changes will be noted in the app.
