Every step below is in the video, in order, with English captions. The same steps are written out underneath so nothing depends on scrubbing.
Install Backstop on a development store. The billing screen shows the only plan, Monthly $19 with a 14 day free trial; on a development store it is a test charge and nothing is billed. Approving it opens the Disputes page. No separate account or login exists: the app runs entirely inside the Shopify admin.
In the store admin, Settings > Payments > Shopify Payments > Manage > enable test mode. Place an order through the storefront with test card 4000 0000 0000 0259 (any future expiry, any CVC). That card number creates a dispute on the order.
In Backstop (Apps > Backstop), click "Check for new disputes" at the top right. The dispute appears with the amount at stake, the evidence deadline counting down in days, and our fight or skip call. Backstop also checks on its own every 6 hours, and emails the alert address 7, 3 and 1 days before each deadline.
Click the order number. The detail page shows what this reason code requires as evidence, an honest read on whether the case is worth fighting, and the evidence checklist: what Backstop assembles from the order automatically, and what only the merchant can add.
Click "Generate evidence PDF". Then "Download PDF" saves the file, and "Preview in new tab" opens the exact document. Backstop never submits anything to the bank: the merchant reviews the PDF and submits it in Shopify's dispute form.
Left navigation > Settings. Paste the store's refund policy (it is included in every evidence PDF), set the alert email, and toggle the prevention emails and the public order lookup page. "Cancel subscription" cancels in one click, with no retention flow; uninstalling also ends billing.
Left navigation > Analytics. The money story for the last 90 days: at stake, kept, lost or conceded, still in play, with a breakdown by reason code. Every number is computed from the store's own dispute rows.
A customer can check an order's status with the order number and email at heybackstop.com/lookup/<store-handle>, so "where is my order" gets answered before it becomes an "item not received" dispute. Status and tracking only; never addresses or amounts.
Backstop reads disputes, orders, customers and fulfillments (read only) to build evidence. It never writes to the store and never submits evidence to a bank.
